Teachings of Luang Phor Koon Luang Phor Koon’s teachings were direct, practical, and grounded in everyday life. He rejected superstition and reminded followers that Buddhism must be lived, not merely believed. 1. Good Deeds Are the Greatest Merit LP Koon consistently taught that karma is shaped by action, not ritual. “Do good, get good. Do bad, get bad. It’s that simple.” He emphasized generosity (Dāna) as the foundation of spiritual growth. 2. Amulets Are Reminders, Not Magic Although amulets bearing his image are widely revered, LP Koon clearly stated that amulets do not create miracles. “If you wear an amulet but cheat others, it won’t help you.” According to him, amulets should remind the wearer to act with honesty, restraint, and compassion. 3. Speak Simply, Live Honestly LP Koon was known for using plain language, sometimes even humor or scolding, to awaken mindfulness. He taught that truth does not need complex philosophy—only sincerity. He encouraged: Honest work Respect for parents Responsibility for one’s actions 4. Let Go of Attachment Despite being one of Thailand’s most famous monks, LP Koon lived with almost nothing. He taught that attachment to wealth, reputation, or objects leads to suffering. His final act—donating his body—was seen as the ultimate lesson in non-attachment (Anicca).
